Lyrics:

I was born in a household but i never had a home

I barely knew my mother when she let me alone
But I knew this girl who at twelve she lost something
something that caused her to lose her way
Some people wish that they were just as pretty
Pretty as some other people could be
But me I don't wish that I was nice and pretty
Me I just wish that someday id be free
Some people, they never turn to look and see me
And never could I see that girl wrapped up in lace
But now i know why people don't look or see me
Maybe its because I was born without a face
Dont give me a face but give me a voice
or i might die trying
that girl she was popped when she was just 12
but you don't see her crying
Theres people like this (girl) all over
But for them there is nothing left over
This song is telling the story of a young boy who is a victim of modern slavery. This boy remains nameless
throughout the song because as he mentions through the words born without a face, he is virtually unknown to
society. For economic reasons the boy was forced into labor slavery by his mother. Early on in the song the boy talks
about a girl he knew who had lost something that caused her to go down a dark path into slavery. That something
was her virginity. This is idea is solidified further into the song with the almost vulgar, but brutally honest use of the
word popped.
Throughout the song the boy talks of the materialistic, and superficial nature of many people, and the
invisibility of himself and others. Including a girl wrapped up in lace which is referring to the prostitution/sex slavery
of the young girl mentioned in the beginning. The song then turns from a the more happy tune with more solemn
lyrics to a darker/foreboding mood where the boy calls upon the audience to not stay stagnant and apathetic, and to
give voice to those people that dont have one. At the end of the song however, the mood changed from being
ominous to a melancholy, but more hopeful ending.
