Philippine Communities Field Trip


Friday, September 20
8:30am- 2:00pm
For the months of August and September the third grade has worked hard on learning about
communities. We learned about leaders, rights, responsibilities, and different types of communities.
This field trip will bring to life the lessons we learned in the classroom. The cost of this field trip is
100 pesos. Please be sure your child comes in their PE uniform.
Itinerary
1. First stop is former Filipino president Magsaysays House.
Here, your child will list things Magsaysay did as president. Then they will decide if he was an

2. Second stop will the village of Castillejos.


Here, your child will decide what type of community Castillejos is (Rural, Suburban, or Urban). Then
they will take photos using a camera to show us proof of their conclusion.
3. Third stop will the Museum of Olongapo
Here, your child will decide what type of community Olongapo is. Then they will take photos using a
camera to show us proof of their conclusion.
4. Last stop will be Subic Bay.
Here, your child will decide what type of community Subic Bay is. Then they will take photos using a
camera to show us proof of their conclusion.

Discussion Questions

Snack Talk
Topic: Was president Magsaysay an effective leader?

Have students sit in a circle with their clipboards on their lap.


Tell students that as they enjoy snack they will share what they know about leaders.
Explain that only the person with the talking bandana can speak. When that person is
listening everyone should listen. If they want to share then they may raise their hand.
Encourage students to use their discussion cards to respond to their friends.
Ask the students the following questions:
1. Look at you pre-assignment, what did you think makes a perfect president and
why?
2. What were some things President Magsaysay did as President that made you
do woah! or wow?

Each group will sit together at lunch. Unlike snack talk this will be less formal and more

around the circle.
