Use of Simple Past
• Form

[ VERB-ED] or IRREGULAR VERBS

• Examples:

You called Debbie.

Did you called Debbie?

You did not called Debbie.


We use the Simple Past when:
1. A completed action in the past.

Ex: Last year, I travelled to Japan.

He didn’t washed his car.


2. A series of completed actions.

Ex: I finished work, I walked to the beach,


and found a nice place to swim.
3. Duration in past.

Ex: I lived in Brazil for two years.

They talked on the phone for five


minutes.

We sat at the beach all day.


4.Habits in the Past.

Ex: I studied French when I was a child.

He played the violin.

They never went to school.


5. Past facts or generalizations.

Ex: She was very shy, but now she is very


outgoing.

He didn’t like tomatoes before.
