Instructional
Strategies:

I will allow students to work together in small groups, where the students
have to rely on one another to be successful. Cooperation and
communication are strategies that I intend to implement into my lesson.

Assessment:

I know that my students will have met my standards by the way they work
together using cooperation, respect, collaboration, and communication. If
each group is able to finish each game, then I know they will have
succeeded and met the target I intended for them to reach.

Materials/
Resources:

Differentiation:
(Modifications/
Adaptations)

4 bags of M&Ms
4 plates and cups
1 bag of Marshmallows
1 box of uncooked spaghetti
8 blown up balloons

Adaptations: Based on my classroom size, I might have to create

more groups to keep the group size around 6. I also need to recognize
the physical ability of my students, and modify my activities if I
dont think that all of my students can do it. If I have a younger or
older class, I can make the games harder or easier accordingly.
Modifications: Depending on how much time I have left, I can adapt
my lesson by having one or two back up games just in case we have
extra time. If we are running low on time, and the activity I have left
is too long, I should have a different, shorter game that I can add into
my lesson plan to modify for the time I have left.
Such differentiation between curriculum modification and curriculum
adaptation is based on ranging degrees in which our educational
approach becomes distinct from (modifications) or maintains the
similarities to existing general curriculum (adaptations).

Procedure

OPEN (2 Minutes):
-I will explain that it is important to create an environment in the classroom
that is full of fun risk taking, communication, and collaboration.
-Count off by 4s in the class to create 4 teams of about 6 students.
-Give a minute to allow students to settle in their groups and decide on a
team name. (Write names on the board)
BODY (7 Minutes):
-Introduce my lesson with a quick game: Separation Anxiety
Each group is given a bag of M&Ms that have already been
opened on a plate with a cup covering them.
When I say go, the group has 30 seconds to separate all the M&Ms
by color on the plate.
Students get to eat the M&Ms after the exercise is over!
-Introduce the second game: Alphabet Exercise
Each group gets two letters in the alphabet. They have two minutes
to find as many objects in the classroom that begin with that letter.
Encourage creativity!
After two minutes, allow each group to quickly share the objects
that they found
-Introduce the third game: Balloon Flyer
Give each group two balloons and when I say go, one of the group
members holds the balloons up as high as they can and drop it.
For one minute, the group has to keep the balloons suspended in
the air by only using their breath.
-Introduce the last game: Marshmallow Tower
Give each group four marshmallows and four uncooked pieces of
spaghetti
Each group gets one minute to make a tower out of the materials
that is taller than the other groups
Encourage creativity!!

CLOSE (1-2 Minutes):

-Allow every student to go back to their seats.
-Ask them if they enjoyed themselves and had fun.
-Let students know that even though they might not have won every
competition, they still won in a sense they bonded and formed relationships
with their group mates.
