Edgar Degas
Edgar Degas was a French artist famous for
his paintings, sculptures, prints, and
drawings.
He is especially identified with the subject
of dance; more than half of his works
depict dancers.
He is regarded as one of the founders of
Impressionism, although he rejected the
term, preferring to be called a realist

Your Turn!
Get in your groups and create a dance to the following music, La
Cumparsita, pausing to create a shape with your partners
whenever the music pauses/hits a high beat, or you hear the
tuba in the background.
Whenever this occurs, one member will be in the middle and strike
an off-balance pose while the other two members act as the
picture frame supporting the person in the middle on opposite
sides.
Each group member should have a turn being in the middle and
striking a pose.
You should look like one of Degas paintings frozen mid- pose.
Youre bringing art to life!
