Though there is still a monarchy in place they do not run the country but often take the role as head of state. Currently, Spain is run in a democratic fashion. Many get this confused because in Spanish he is called( el presedente) even though Spain currently has a democratic system .Spains government has not always been so democratic. In fact only a few decades ago, Spain was ruled by a dictator for about twenty years. During this time everyone was denied the opportunity to take part in the government.
