CPE Sample Letter exam 2016

The library in your town or college is going to be expanded.

Write a letter to the Planning Committee. Explain how you
think the present facilities could be improved and suggest
some new services that the library could provide.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to suggest some ideas on how the facilities of the library could be improved
and a new service be implemented to accompany the new expansion.
First of all, many of the library users complain that the lack of space between the circular
tables makes it uncomfortable to study in the main room. Since it is actually spacious, I
believe that the Planning Committee should consider replacing the circular tables for
rectangular ones to be placed in rows, which would save a lot of space. That way it would
be also easier to move around and to do work group.
Another reason of complain is having people of different ages sharing the same
room, as children often mess around near senior students or elderly people,
who need a higher level of concentration. It would be highly advisable to create
different reading sections for children, college-students and adults.
Regarding the new ideas for services, I think that a book club would appeal readers of all
ages. The committee would have to implement a special space for this room, in order not
to disturb people at the tables. Literature students could run it as volunteers to widen their
labour experience as possible future teachers or librarians. Members, on the other hand
could bring their own books for discussion and if they wished, later donate them to the
library. On the whole and however already commonplace in other towns, this initiative
might constitute a lovely meeting point for bibliophiles while fostering this enriching habit
for children.

I hope my letter illustrates my conviction that modifying the tables distribution, creating
sections for specific ages and a book club would make superb introductions and surely topnotch reviews for our town library.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Patricia de Pastors.
