What is ISM?
ISM stands for Independent Study Mentorship and this course is designed to
help students independently gain direct access to their chosen career by
shadowing a professional adult. Students are able to learn more directly
and in depth about there chosen career path by being in the setting and
being guided by their mentor. Students are to meet with their mentor at the
site of mentorship activities for at least 2 hours a week and document what
was seen, learned, and experience through journal entries and activity logs.
A final project examining a specific topic or case studies will be major grade
with a tangible item to go with the presentation.

Project Topic: Adoption and Euthanasia

Process
I chose this topic to get direct insight and share what I have learned about
adoption and the big question many people ask when it comes to animal
shelters: What is euthanasia and for what reasons is it put to use? I hope to
enlighten and be enlightened on the controversial topics shelters typically have
in order to clarify many speculations people tend to have. I am a huge
supporter of animal care and believe they should be treated like we would want
to be treated. They are vulnerable and deserve the best home and care
possible. My tangible item will be a cardboard cut out of a tree with the
processes of adoption around the tree with pictures of pets from the shelter.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this study has been very valuable to me in the sense that I was
able to gain so much knowledge and experience. Learning more about animal
sheltering and controversial issues concerning the shelters has been very mind
opening and enjoyable. It can be emotionally difficult when an animal is to be
put down for any reason, with it is a severe injury, bite case, rabies, or any
other reason. We tend to build a special relationship with animals as our
companions. Nonetheless, I have thoroughly enjoyed the hands on work I have
been able to do and appreciate the opportunity I have been given.

Thank You

I want to thank my mentor Allison Layton for giving me such an eye opening
and exciting opportunity, working with pets has been really enjoyable. I also
want to thank Mrs. Click again for being a great teacher and guiding us step
by step throughout our mentorship.
