Electronics recycling company reacts quickly to warehouse fire.
Erie City, ONT. March 31, 2016 While the news of a burning building is never positive, we at Wisetech Reduction insist that we are handling the situation swiftly and effectively. During the early hours of this morning, March 31, a fire engulfed one of Wisetech Reductions largest warehouses. Erie City Fire Chief, Mitchell Jones, has ordered an evacuation of all residents within a 3 k.m. radius of the facility. We would like to stress that the evacuation is entirely precautionary. Wisetech Reduction stores all of its most unstable recyclables in a separate interior facility with a double steel-plated roof. It is very unlikely that any products stored in the more open portion of the warehouse contain any sort of dangerous chemicals. Percy Smith, Wisetech Reduction General Manager, explained, Wisetech Reduction is doing everything we can to resolve the issue. We have maintained constant dialogue with the Ministry of the Environment and local fire officials. Wisetech Reduction will continue to be fully cooperative and will work tirelessly to rectify the situation. Since we have been alerted of the fire, we have been taking and will continue to take the appropriate steps to not only alleviate the problem, but to repair any sort of damages inflicted on the surrounding area. Again, we would like to reiterate that recyclable products exposed to the fire are not likely to contain any sort of dangerous chemicals. Wisetech Reduction will continue to work with the local fire department and the Ministry of the Environment to extinguish the fire and to address any other issues caused by the fire.
