INTRODUCTION
What are the mumps?
Mumps is also known as parotitis.
The mumps is a viral infection that is transmitted by and affects only humans.
This viral infection primarily affects the parotid glands, which are a pair of glands
that produce saliva. The parotid glands are located below and in front of the ears.
If you contract the mumps, it can cause swelling in one or both parotid glands.
What causes the mumps?
The mumps is a contagious disease caused by a virus. The mumps virus is highly
contagious, and it is most commonly spread from person to person via
respiratory droplets.

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of Mumps usually begin to appear after having this virus for 2-3
weeks.
Symptoms Include: swollen/painful glands on side of face, fever, headache,
muscle ache, weakness, fatigue, loss in appetite, and pain while chewing or
swallowing.
Although many symptoms can come from mumps, many people infected
with the disease experience very mild or no symptoms at all.

CAUSES
The mumps is caused by a Virus.
The virus is spread from person to person by drops of moisture from
respiratory tact, such as when you sneeze.
It also spread through direct contact with items that have infected saliva on
them.

TREATMENTS
Mumps is a virus, so some drugs like antibiotics are ineffective to the
disease.
Applying ice packs to swollen areas can help.
Changing your diet to mainly soft foods like soup or yogurts will ease pain
off of swollen glands around the mouth area.
Most people can recover from an uncomplicated case of mumps in around
two weeks.
Usually, after about a week of diagnosis from a doctor, the person with
mumps can again travel to school or work.
