Planning an

Investigation:
Sugar
Now that you have learned a little about
macro-molecules and how sugar is
formed and separated it is your groups
task to come up with a scientific
investigation to learn more about sugar molecule formation. We are going to look at at different
sugars that we eat and how they build their molecules.

Investigation Question: Come up with a question you want to ask and

investigate for this project related to sugar molecule formation.

How long will it take, so the sugar will form on the shish kabob?
Will the sugar form in rock candy since we are mixing different sugars?

Variables and Controls: What variable would you like to test in order to
answer your question? What conditions will you keep consistent so you know your variable is
answering your questions? Some things that we changed was the temperature of the

water, types of sugars, and and the cups of water. Some things that stayed were the
amount of sugar, the amount of color dye,and the skewer.

Materials: List the materials your group will need to carry out this investigation &
collect data

Some materials that we are going to be using 2 cups of powdered, cane, brown, and

sucralose sugar. We also used a skewer, four cups of hot water, half a teaspoon of color
dye, and a jar.

Procedure: List as DETAILED as possible the procedure for setting up this

investigation, testing different variables, what, when, and how you will be collecting data.

You boil the 4 cups of hot water and pour into the jar. Add the 2 cups of sugar into the
jar, color dye and mix it with a skewer. Dip half the skewer into the jar and then get
another skewer to hold it and there you go.

Data Collection: Describe the data you want to collect that will help you
investigate your question, describe when you will be collecting it, where you will be keeping
your data, when and for how long you will be collecting data. You must also have a data table
written out and ready to collect the data

Results: After the data has been collected you will try to interpret what your results
mean, we will do this at the end of the investigation. Make a prediction what you think you will
happen in your investigation.
