Lesson plan for: Writing Unit 5 Lesson 9: Using Sequence Part 2

3.W.2a - Introduce a topic and group related information
together; include illustrations when useful to aiding
comprehension.
3.W.2b - Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details.
Objective for this lesson:
Students will be able to
Use transitional words to indicate sequence.
Anticipatory Set:
Gather the students to the carpet **bring their writers notebook.
Go over the strategies that we have been working on,
specifically: Use sequence to tell about my topic. Include
transitional words (first, after, then, next, afterward, finally).
Direct/Guided Instruction:
1. Ask students to locate a sentence in their chapter two that uses
a transitional word.
2. Explain to students that what they had made in their notebooks
for their sequence will be made into a popplet.
3. Send students back to their desks and show example of the
popplet using the elmo.
4. Remind students that they need to use transitional words in their
popplets.
Closure:
Students will begin drafting chapter 3 in their writers notebook.
Independent Practice:
Writing in their notebooks and making the popplet including
transitional words in a sequence.
Materials Required:
Anchor chart
Popplet example
iPad
Writers notebook (mine and theirs)
Nonfiction packet

Self-Reflection/Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on their popplet.
