ARTIFACT H1 REFLECTION

The three lessons I have learned from the portfolio process is how transferable skills
translate into transferable jobs, the desire to be a generalist Student Affairs professional, and my
competency in relation to my passions.
As Im going through the job search process, Ive spent a lot of time exploring how my
skills are transferable into other positions. What Ive learned is that despite a jobs title or
department it is likely that a position will have me working in my passions and values around
students with underrepresented backgrounds. I can apply my undergrad and multicultural affairs
experiences to my wellness and health background, and can continue to bridge these with
students academics and their needs.
I have learned through this process how much of a generalist Student Affairs professional
I am, and how I want to continue developing that. I enjoy exploring student, departmental, and
institutional need. I enjoy reflecting on my experiences and skills and how they can make a
difference in each level of need. I am driven by working in various levels and providing
different, positive impacts to a community.
Lastly, I evaluated my competency and growth and saw how it relates to my passions,
and how that has grown as well. I am at my best when Im advising students. As a practitioner,
I have a level of competency on various levels, but advising students has been my strongest
point. There is plenty of work to do around a few competency areas, but I feel satisfied with
where I currently am in my professional development, with a drive to continue learning and
growing.
