STIMULUS: Poem On Aging - by Maya Angelou

A white woman, named Catherine, who married a black man. Her

husband is later killed as it was during the period of racism.
CHARACTERS:
Grandma Catherine (Main Character)- Was married to a
black man, constantly oppressed by members of an all-white
community. (Frail, petite, packs her hair in a bun, has
farrows on her forehead, has sad, lifeless small bluegrey with bags under her eyes and wears thick glasses,
from her history of reading and writing. Has a stooped
back. Has thin pink lips and a point nose)
Nathan Jr.: Son to Grandma Catherine and Nathan Sr. He is
biracial, and Catherine took him away from the community at
a young age to live with his uncle (Nathan Snrs brother) for
his safety. He works as an informant for the FBI. (Tall and
buff body, with broad shoulders(takes his fathers
stature). Skin tone a combination of his mothers fair
complexion and his fathers dark skin tone. He has
hazel eyes and full pink lips. He has dark brown short
soft curly hair. His nose is wide and he is a gentle giant,
taking after his father (Nathan Snr)
Flora: Daughter to Stephanie. She is a tom-boy, her
character represents the rough nature of the white
community. She hates Grandma Catherine due to the
influence of her mom, Stephanie.
Stephanie: Mother to Flora. She was once a leading
suspect in the murder of Nathan Snr. She is unmarried, and
she plays a big influence in the life of her daughter. She is

the president of the community council, and the owner of

land that was owned by her grandfather.
Bruce Todd: Cousin to Flora. He is a little bit younger than
Flora and a TOTAL opposite of Flora (in terms of his
personality). Bruce is the representative of the new world,
which does not judge based on race.
Mr.Todd (Stan Todd): Father to Bruce. He works in the FBI
and came to the community, undercover (to reopen the case
of the death of Nathan Snr after new evidence was brought t
light by Nathan Jr.). He is Stephanies brother but he built his
life outside the community because he did not support their
actions/beliefs.
