TIME NEEDED (HOURS, WEEKS ETC)

1 week roughly
Monday-Thursday will be spent studying the words both in class and at home
Friday will be spent playing the game
Each day, approximately 30 minutes to an hour will be spent on the words on the vocabulary lists
examining their meanings and what they are in both English and Spanish
ESSENTIAL OR FOCUSING QUESTION (S):
What do various words mean in Spanish when translated from English?

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES:
WHAT DOES THE TEACHER DO?
Monday through Thursday, there will be approximately 30 minutes to an hour spent going over the words
on the list, making sure that each student knows what it means and then later in the week moving on to
what the words are when translated to Spanish. I will teach the meanings of the words, work on
pronunciation of the words and also teach the kids how to spell the words so that they are able to recognize
them when they see them written on paper. Knowing what the words look like when on paper will
definitely be beneficial to them in the future when they have their test over the words and their matching
translations. I will also find copies of the book to send home with the students so they have a copy at home
to refer back to if they need it. Then on Friday the students will be lined up in an area of the room, similar
to how you would line up for Red Rover or Mother May I. I will then ask each student their own question,
which would be either how to spell a word in Spanish or how to pronounce it. If they get it right, then they
will move ahead one square, that much closer to winning. Whoever reaches the teacher first wins and
chooses a prize from our special prize box.
WHAT DO THE STUDENTS DO?
The students will be assigned to work on pronunciation, spelling and practicing on what the translations
are for the assigned words from the book. They will need to be quizzed by their parents so they will be
ready for the game on Friday and must also be quizzed over the weekend in preparation for the test on
Monday.
ASSESSMENT (TIED TO OBJECTIVES):
After playing the Mother May I? game on Friday, the following Monday the students will be given a test
where they are to match the Spanish word to its English meaning. This will show that the students
understand and remember what the words are in both Spanish and English.
ADAPTATION AND/OR MODIFICATIONS (IF NEEDED):
If changes are needed on account of students needs, I will consult with required parties on what I should
do specifically. If needed I will have a translator come in for those students that require extra assistance
with English as a Second Language.
