Scholarship for Practice
As a student nurse in order to show competence in this outcome I am able to assimilate current
evidence into the practice of nursing. Throughout my experience in nursing school, I have
learned how important it is to stay up to date with current evidence based practices. Clinically, I
show having met this expectation as I practice all the evidence based practices that we are taught
at school and in the simulation lab. At clinical we have been able to attend continuing education
credit hours that show how nurses in the field stay up to date on evidence based practice when
they do not necessarily have the time to do the research themselves. Academically, in my
portfolio I have attached a risk paper based on a person who completed a RealAge questionnaire.
Based on their results of the RealAge questionnaire, I assessed the patients current good health
practices then assessed a couple of bad health habits. Based on that information I established two
wellness diagnosis that fit the patients profile and how they can use that diagnosis to better their
lifestyle into a healthier lifestyle. Also attached is a pamphlet I created about Cystic Fibrosis. The
pamphlets purpose is to educate about the disease of Cystic Fibrosis, how to treat it, and who
may be at risk for cystic fibrosis. Also included is NCLEX-style question to test the readers
knowledge based on the information provided in the pamphlet. In the future, I will continue to
keep my knowledge on evidence based practices current.
