Objective:
Students will be able to write a fictional story.
Students will be able to write with correct grammar and sentence
structure.
Materials Needed:
Lined paper
Pencil
Rockin n Rollin
Beginning (20 minutes):
Students will begin this writing lesson by doing their second read of
Rockin n Rollin. During their second read, students should be taking
a closer look at the informational text and analyzing the data and
information in the charts and graphs.
Middle (30 minutes):
We will review the aspects of a good essay. Students are reminded to
make a claim in their topic sentence and to restate their claim in the
closing sentence. They are also reminded to use descriptive words to
add detail to their legend.
Students will answer a writing prompt:
Before scientists learned the real causes of earthquakes, storytellers
told legends about why earthquakes happen. Write your own legend
about why earthquakes happen.
End (10 minutes):

Students will be able to illustrate the story they told about how
earthquakes. Students will also be given the opportunity to share their
legends aloud to the rest of the class.
