1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
The fantasy is you think you can do whatever shows you want, create great art and make a ton of money
while doing it. The reality is you have to do Annie every three years (lol) just to get new kids to try it
out. And you have to sacrifice your artistic wants and needs for the sake of keeping the business open.
2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?
(educational level and requirements)
I attended college and studied in the area of fine arts mostly voice performance. There is no required
continuing Ed as a private organization but I always continuously study, attend conferences and
competitions.
3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
So day to day ranges from preparing to techie evening lessons and classes, administrative duties,
janitorial duties lol and customer device. I also update the website and plan the season and yearly
projects. I say this job is from taxes to toilets it has such a wide range.
4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?
(job security)
Revised Fall 2013

I am so secure that I have decided to take it to NYC. I think the future is bright if you have drive and
determination.
5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?
It depends on the person. You can make under $20k a year or more than a million and then some people
make nothing and have to work extra jobs. It's very unpredictable.
6. What potential for growth is there in your field?
Well musical theatre is growing in popularity so the demand for director and teachers is greater.
7. What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing the students grow as performers!
8. What is the most difficult part of your job?
Dealing with the parents and the business side of things.
9. How is a theatrical job different than any other kind of job?
It's a flexible schedule and I am free to come and go but you are also a slave to it because you are never
done with the job. You are constantly working on the next project while competing the current one.
10. Do you like working with younger or older kids?
I like working with both! They each have their own perks! The little ones are excited and are mostly
learning to use their imagination. While with teens you can dive into characters and more serious type
of shows.
