Veganism is a widely controversial way of living that seeks to
exclude the exploitation of animals for food, clothing, testing and
entertainment. Veganuary is a global campaign that launched in
January 2014 -http://www.veganuary.com/about/to help
encourage people to try vegan for January. With a success of 3,200
people ready to commit in January 2014,
http://www.veganuary.com/about/the campaign has gone from
strength to strength to help raise awareness of this lifestyle, and
this year, we aim to get even more people on board than
ever.
Veganism not only helps to reduce the suffering of animals and help
the planet but also improves personal health. Due to the fact vegans
do not eat animals or their products,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veganism they must find the
essential nutrients they need from plant based sources, vegan
alternatives and fortified foods. This means that vegans eat a lot
more fruits and vegetables than omnivores.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veganism Vegans get the most
amount of nutrients they can from their food and are keen to make
sure they know how to get everything they need such as iron.
However, vitamin B12 is a vitamin that can be hard for vegans to
obtain as it is found in meat,
http://www.theveganrd.com/vegan-nutritionprimers/vitamin-b12-a-vegan-nutrition-primer which is created
by bacteria but is also added to fortified foods such as breakfast
cereals. A supplement of B12 is the easiest way to make sure you do
not lack it - http://www.theveganrd.com/2015/02/finding-thebest-vegan-vitamin-b12-supplement.html in your diet. Its
important to know that just because its more difficult for a
vegan to source vitamin b12 in their diet doesnt mean its a
chore, and there are a multitude of different ways to ensure
you are getting the sufficient nutrition.
Not only do vegans tend to be more well informed of what their
body needs and what their food contains but avoiding meat and
animal products can help to virtually eliminate the most severe
diseases such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes,

diverticulosis and coli infections.

ALL/653/ A vegan diet can be more beneficial to women as PMS
symptoms become less intense or disappear altogether. This is due
to the elimination of dairy from their diet.

Veganism helps the environment and helps to stop excess
greenhouse gases. Over 70 billion land animals such as cows, pigs
and chickens are specifically bred, farmed and killed for food every
year.

This does not include sea creatures and other animals bred for fur
and skin trades. While these figures may be shocking, they
shouldnt come as a surprise with the amount of self
proclaimed meat eaters in the world, but as time goes by,
more and more people are switching to a vegan diet, and
leaving peopled airy and meat. The meat industry has a big
impact on the environment and how use our natural resources. 70%
of the fresh water produced is used for the meat industry and takes
2500 gallons of water for 1 pound of beef. This is equivalent to 100
pounds of wheat. 70% of the worlds grain harvest is fed to livestock
while the other 30% is used for the entire worlds population.
http://waterfootprint.org/media/downloads/Hoekstra-2012Water-Meat-Dairy.pdf Only 50% of grain harvest could feed all
the starving people in the world if only people would stop eating
meat. http://www.earthpolicy.org/data_highlights/2011/highlights22
There are many facts and statistics that highlight the
dangers of the meat industries, ranging from ethical,
environmental and health, and theres a lot that can be said.
Weve tried to highlight some of the key information for you
here, but there is lots more to be said. Head to our website
to find out more about why you should get involved.
Conclusion The first thing I did was scan through the work
and correct any grammatical errors. Luckily there werent
many to start with so there wasnt a great deal I had to do in
terms of correcting little things, probably down to word
having a spell check feature meaning there werent many
spelling mistakes.
In terms of the facts, I highlighted them all in white, and
checked that they were all correct and valid by finding
source websites in order to back them up and prove that
they were real. I was able to find websites that back up
every piece of data in the text, so the initial writer has

obviously done their research prior to writing it, rather than

just typing up made up dribble.
I made a few changes to the actual text by adding in some
more information that I felt was relevant. I added some
simple things such as extensions to sentences (in the first
paragraph) that helped to explain to the reader the
potential for growth within the organization of Veganuary,
as I felt It was necessary to do so. I also added a final
paragraph at the end that essentially evaluated the
information that had been given above. My reason for doing
this was essentially because I felt it ended too abruptly, and
that it would make the article feel more well rounded off and
complete with the addition of a final paragraph summarizing
the text.
