Agency Project

Natural Breeden
SWK 4910 001: Integrative Field Seminar

Agency:
Public Schools of Robeson County
Rosenwald Elementary School
Fairmont Middle School

Project Name:
Making IT Count!

Focus of Project:
The focus of this agency project will be addressing unexcused
absences and tardiness. Students who have accumulated ten or
more unexcused absences and/or five or more tardies will be
given a contract to sign to state they will improve in the areas of
attendance and tardiness.

Need for Project:

This project is a new and needed project because students who
have accumulated ten or more unexcused absences are in
violation of the Compulsory Attendance Law.

Compulsory Attendance Law

Location of Project:
Fairmont Middle School

Populations Served
Students who attend Fairmont Middle School that have
accumulated eight or more unexcused absences and/or four or
more tardies.

Project Details
The contract will be discussed amongst the School Social Worker,
parents, and students. The contract will be signed by the School
Social Worker, students who attend Fairmont Middle School that
have accumulated ten or more unexcused absences and/or five or
more tardies, and the students parents. Along with this contract,
tips will be provided for students to get to school on time (e.g.
getting clothes out at night, etc.).

Making IT Count!

Bringing In Notes
My supervisor allows parents/guardians to bring in notes for
unexcused absences. A parent/guardian is allowed 10
handwritten notes per year and x amount of doctors notes. If a
student continues to miss school after bringing in ten
handwritten notes and x amount of doctors notes, the next step is
court.
Example: If a student accumulates 30 unexcused absences
for the year and brings in 10 handwritten notes and 5 doctors
notes, the student can not miss anymore days. If the student does,
court is the next step.
