12/24/2014 Youngstown University Found their site to not be properly
accessible, especially for those with sensory impairments. The University
must develop, adopt, and provide notice and training on a web
accessibility policy and an implementation and remediation plan to
ensure adherence to the policy (US Department of Education, 2015)
3/8/2013 - South Carolina Technical College Found their site to not be
readily accessible to persons who are blind, have low vision, or have
other print-related disabilities (US Department of Education, 2015)

ADA COMPLIANCE TRAINING


The training will provide an overview of the Americans with Disabilities act and
section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
The training will discuss the Universities policies and the participants
responsibility under ADA and Section 504 (US Department of Education, 2015).
The training will go over what to do when a student discloses a disability and
discusses the referral system and the proper process when referring a student to
the Disability Services Office.

TARGETED AUDIENCE
The audience is University campus staff. The university staff ranges in age (18+)
and education (higher education). Each staff members works with students in
some capacity.

MODALITY
The modality is in person or online via a web based meeting program such as
Webex or Skype Business.

GOALS
The goals of the training
Employees will confidently demonstrate they understand how to refer a
student to the Disability office.
When they have complex conversations or situations come up, they will learn
what they are allowed to discuss with students and what should be referred
to the Disability Services Office.
Participants will guide students to Disability Services resources.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
University Representatives should be able to apply the knowledge learned to
refer students to the ADA department using the required university system,
using the practice setting and participating in a discussion.
University Representatives should be able to apply knowledge learned to
understand what they can and cannot discuss with students with disabilities,
using real life scenarios, sample calls and participating in discussion.
University Representatives should be able to apply knowledge learned to
provide students with disabilities with resources about the Universities
Disabilities office using practice setting and participating in discussion.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

To demonstrate the different processes learned, the training will incorporate


case studies and sample calls. The technology used will be very simple and
consist of a PowerPoint presentation that has screen shots of example
scenarios and verbiage from calls.

Time: Training will last 1 hour.

Participant Selection
Any student facing staff is recommended to attend. Any university employee
is welcome to attend.

University Representative must complete 1 hour training, must


participate in discussions, and should show they can access and use the
university ADA system and show they know where to find ADA resources

CONCLUSION

Because of the legal component, ADA training, is essential to any


Universities training program.
By providing ADA training, we can help ensure students with disabilities
are referred to the Disabilities office to get the help they may need to be
successful in their education.
