Simmons College Reports Highest Minority Growth
A Year with Little Campus Growth Brings Focus on Minority Student Population

BOSTON (March 2) Simmons announced that minority enrollment increased by
8.7% this fall. This increase happened in a year when overall campus enrollment
grew less than 1%.

This university has taken a significant step forward said Helen Drinan, Simmons
College President. Our many efforts of recent years are beginning to produce the
desired results.

The School released other minority enrollment data:
Black student enrollment increased from 34 to 678 students
American Indian student enrollment went from 46 to 204 students
Asian student enrollment increased from 44 to 565 students
Hispanic student enrollment grew from 25 to 452 students

Drinan said the increase in minority students is a gratifying sight for the many
students, faculty and administrators who have worked for it. We still have more to
do. This is only the beginning.

This has been a five-year effort for the School. Statistics show minority enrollment
in 2011 comprised of 1,540 students, which grew to 1,747 students in 2015 and
now is reported to be 1,899 students.
