INFORMATION

SUMMARY

Coenzyme Q10, a vitamin-like substance

found in every cell in the body, plays a vital role in
cellular energy production and is a potent
antioxidant with numerous health benefits.

Coenzyme Q10 (also known as ubiquinone and ubidecarenone) is an

oil-soluble substance.

Some of CoQ10's many benefits include

treatment uses for mitochondrial disorders,
migraine
headaches,
cancer,
brain
and
neurodegenerative diseases, cardiac arrest, and
blood pressure issues.

PROCEDURE
According AOAC Official Method 2008.07

This molecule is present in most eukaryotic cells, primarily in the

mitochondria, and have an action in the aerobic cellular respiration.
Coenzyme Q10 is also an antioxydant.
This paper presents a specific HPLC method to quantify coenzyme
Q10 in dietary supplements and raw materials, with a high precision.

- Coenzyme Q10 is extracted with a mixture of

acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran and water
- The extract is diluted with ferric chloride solution,
to convert any reduced Coenzyme Q10 into the
oxydized form
- Quantification by HPLC/UV at 275 nm

As we age, the ability of our body to produce

CoQ10 declines.

METHOD VALIDATION

Because of its ability to transfer electrons and

therefore act as an antioxidant, CoQ10 is used as a
dietary supplement.
