Through last several decades historic urban cores are experiencing crisis in developing. Crisis is recognized in losing population, city functions and importance for residents. The key process in cores physical, demographical and functional recovery is called revitalization. Main issue of this thesis is revitalization of Belgaums historic urban core. A new model or pattern of sustainable functions will be suggested. Throughout the history of Belgaum processes like degradation, decadence and change of its role in social life are recognizable. The urban renewal is the inevitable product during the urban development process of Belgaum which represents the traditional culture spirit of the city. The high-valuable culture features of the site should be reserved in the reconstruction project and expressed in new way with creative method. The concept design is reserving the old core and skin while adding in the new core and skin which makes the city correspond to the land value of the city center and help with enhancing the status And also transform and strengthen the urban structure , image and identity of Belgaum city. The concepts of place making and sense of place play a major factor significantly in delineating alternative ways that can work in line to regenerate ailing urban spaces. AIM: Cities urgently need to establish spatial plans, strategies and policy framework that aim to accommodate and guide urban population changes and rapid growth rather than constrain or fragment them. Orderly re-densification, revitalization and expansion processes are all needed with the aim of defining a coherent public realm between public spaces and urban neighborhoods.
