Chief Nursing Officer University of Arizona Hospital Dear Ms. Smith: As a Masters prepared Registered Nurse and current Interim Patient Care Manager for a 200 person Resource Pool Team, I was delighted to see the opening for Director of Womens and Infant Services within your organization. During my tenure as a nurse, I have had the opportunity to work in adult medical telemetry, pediatric intensive care, pediatric hematology/oncology, general pediatrics, and neonatal intensive care. I possess exceptional nursing and communication skills. I love caring for patients emotional health and well-being, as well as their physical needs. During my time as a bedside nurse I was taught to recognize and address the unique needs of each individual patient, their family, and/or caregivers. I have a calm demeanor and empathetic persona, which allows for interpersonal connections and relationship development. I have the knowledge and background ability to supervise, manage, and promote team work amongst others which has allowed me to grow and develop my career within my current workplace. My educational background in nursing, along with my professional experience in supervising and managing, makes me an excellent match for your organization. Currently I hold the position of Interim Patient Care Manager for my organizations Resource Pool Team; a team of approximately 200 Registered Nurses, Patient Care Assistants, and Patient Care Companions that work to support my organization by floating between all units of our 487 bed level one trauma center and local sister facility. I am responsible for managing the operations of this large-scale team to ensure unit and organizational support in all patient care areas, while maintaining high-quality patient care, and effective resource utilization. Other duties include interviews, selection, orientation, and onboard of new hires; balancing schedules in accordance with staffing needs, patient populations, and staff requests; payroll and payroll related corrections; adherence to policies and procedures on a unit, facility, and regulatory agency basis; communication of system, regional, facility and departmental initiatives; and safety intelligence reporting and investigation. I seek to develop staff leadership and engagement in the team and organization. I aim to lead change by developing, implementing and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the department director and to coach, evaluate, and issue corrective actions in a manner that supports development opportunities and creates a culture of learning with the provision of safe and quality care. I value people above all and strive to promote patient- and family-centered care by serving as a real-time clinical expert and leader for our team. Thank you or taking the time to review and consider my application. I would love to meet you in person so that we may further discuss my education, qualifications, and passions with you. Because of my considerable background and experience in nursing and leadership, I believe that I am the perfect candidate to fill the positon of Director of Womens and Infants Services.
