Curriculum Area: Social Studies KDI: #54-Community Roles, #55-Decision Making, & #58-Ecology Materials: Dirt, seeds, trowels, watering pots, tongue depressors, waterproof signs, & garden gloves. Appropriate Age Group: 3-5 year olds Beginning of Activity: We will discuss what we want to grow & how to care for the plants. Middle of Activity: Early Extension: Some children will help to dig. Middle: Most children will plant the garden & then check & water the garden daily. Later Extension: Some children will help plant, care for, make signs, measure, & predict how long until our garden is ready to eat. End of Activity: We will make a classroom person that daily checks & measures our garden. Follow up Ideas (2): -Read books about gardening. -Encourage families to have their preschooler help make a garden at home.
