ThisisanintroductiontoSpanishthatexposesthestudenttotheessentialsofthelanguage.
Thecourseprovidestraininginthefourskillsoflistening,speaking,readingandwriting,in
theSpanishlanguage.
Descriptionoflearningorinstructionalcontent
Studentswillattendclass,onetimeaweekfor2hoursand50minuteseachclassperiodfor
onesemester.Duringthistime,theywillreceiveinstructionfromtheteacher/facilitator.
DeliveryMethods:
Thestudentswillhavebothfacetofaceinteractionsinclassandanonlineportion.This
willbea50/50blendedclass.

Thepurposeofthismoduleistoprovideanintroductiontotheclassandbasic
conversationalphrases.

1. FacilitatorwillaskstudentstosignupatRemindsotheycanreceiveallmessagesand
updatesrelevanttocourse.
2. FacilitatorwilldiscussinfographicofimportanceofstudyingSpanishandwillassign
infographicactivitytobesharedoutduringthenextsession.
3. Facilitatorwillhaveabout5differentcardsdepictingdifferentscenarios(goingtothe
Doctor,pharmacy,accident.
4. Studentswillcountoffingroupsof3andfacilitatorwillgiveeachgroup2cardsand
groupswillshowrelevanceofwhyitisimportanttostudySpanishbasedonthecardsthey
weregiven.
5. Facilitatorwillwrapupbyexplainingthereisanonlineassignmenttodoaninfographicof
whyitisimportanttostudySpanish.PutrubricupontheSmartboardtoexplainrubricand

picturesshowninthePrezi.Studentscanstayinthesamepairsorswitchupwhicheverthey
prefer.Studentswillfollowskitcardguidesthatwillbehandedouttoeachgroup.Theywillneed
tospeakinfullsentencesandaddinmoreinformationusingthevocabularyfromthelist.(niceto
meetyou,thankyou,sorry,etc.).Thecardsonlyprovideaskeletontofacilitatetheskit.

4.TheProfessorwillshowthestudentsthePreziwiththedifferentscenariopicturesallowing
about5minutesforeachgrouptoputtogetherasmallskit.TheProfessorwillalsohavethe
scenariosprintedoutoncardstogiveouttoeachgroup.Youmayneedtorepeatsituationsifyou

CourseOutcomes

TheInstructorsGoalsforElementarySpanish(101)areto:

Provide the student with an opportunity to achieve proficiency at the elementary beginner
levelofSpanishinthewritten,auralandoralpartsofsecondlanguageacquisition.

DemostratehowstudentsshouldstudythebeginningelementsoftheSpanishlanguage.

Focus on the course goal for each student and make sure that he/she will have sufficient
mastery ofthe elementsofbasic grammaticalstructures,andthelearningofbasicvocabulary
to permit conversation and written and aural comprehension conversation at the beginning
level.

Ensure that stridents will receive cultural information aboutselectedcountriesintheHispanic


world and will be expected to integrate this information into her his worldlier and cultural
understanding.
