Ms. Lindsay Hastings

2-5-16
Comp 1
My whole life has been dedicated to success. As a child, I wanted to make a change in my
family. Not only my family, but my community as well. I am a very independent person. Since
the age of 15, my priority has been working jobs. I love learning and working; it keeps me busy
and away from trouble. Working different jobs allows me to stay interested in the business field.
My goal is to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management.
I have worked several jobs like the sanitation and street department, Andre Crawford
plumbing service where I worked as an assistant, New Zion Community center where I worked
as a food server, and a tutor for children between the ages of 7-12 years old. Finally I raked
leaves during the fall around my neighborhood. In the future, I plan to live in Houston, Texas and
own a professional lawn service yearly round.
Throughout high school, I maintained a 3.5 grade point average. Also I have been
selected as an Arkansas Scholar, National Honor Society, which is based on leadership, character,
and scholarship. And I have been proudly recognized as a 2015 Honor graduate of Phillips
county high school. I have great character, leadership skills, and Im considered as a support for
others who are dedicated in getting an education.
The study abroad program that I applied for is called Academic Programs International
(API) with an offer of $2,500. Students must remain a GPA of 2.5 and a degree in business
administration. I interviewed Ms. Elma Delgado who is professor of the International language
and secondary learning department at University at Little Rock Arkansas (UALR). I learned
about the Latino culture in family, food, and sports.
In the Latino culture families tend to be large in households. Grandmother, children,
mother, cousins, father, and grandfather tend to live in the same home. From statistics, the
children in families of the U.S. is 2.3%. But, Latino children in families is 40%.
Mexico foods are a mixture of Spain, France, Africa, and Native. Native people
discovered these foods before Latinos came in the culture. Foods include chicken, barbeque, and
burritos. Theres a special sauce for foods called Mole which takes forever to make because it
includes twenty ingredients.
The most popular sports in Mexico are baseball and soccer. Soccer is popular the most
because of the world cup series an event where International teams compete. Ms. Delgado
mentioned partian is translated into match. I was very interested when Ms. Delgado talked about
Mexico. Getting this information in the interview made me want to broad around the world to
see new things.
My motive is to study abroad in Mexico and learn more about business Management. The
culture, experience, and advantages of a business in Mexico distinguished from the U.S .I also
plan to accomplish my goal which is investing in my own lawn in Texas. I want to show my
younger siblings that they can work hard and receive an education like Im going to achieve.

I believe Knowledge is power. Learning is worth it, education is important and studying
abroad interest me because it gives me an opportunity to see the world. Studying in Mexico
would be a great experience for me because not only will I travel to learn about the Latino
culture. I plan to set a goal to grow in a different atmosphere growth will allow me to improve
for the future. I believe this what study abroad is about, preparing college students for the future
to make a change in their atmosphere in the U.S.
