Orsinio tells the musician to continue playing music as he exclaims his

love for Olivia. His friend Curio asks him if he wants to go hunt hart
(male deer) and the only thing Orsinio wants to hunt for is Olivia's
love. Olivia says she won't show her face for seven years because of
the tragic loss of her brother.

Viola and a captain enter the scene, Viola's brother has just been
lost at sea and Viola wants to work for Olivia since she has
recently lost her brother too and feels that she can relate. Viola
plans to disguise herself as an eunuch and the Captain says he
wont tell her her plans to anyone.

Viola walks in with Valentine dressed as a male

named Cesario. Later Orsinio, Curio and attendants
walk in. Orsinio tells Cesario to plant himself out
Olivia's door until she lets him in and to make Olivia
fall in love with Orsinio. But Cersario (Viola) wants to
marry Orsinio herself.

Maria, Olivia's maid and Sir Toby, Olivia's uncle argue about Sir Toby's
drinking. Sir Andrew enters and offers his hand to her but she takes
him as a joke. Maria exits and the two men discuss Olivia, Sir Andrew
is planning on going home because he doesn't think Olivia is interested
but Sir Toby persuades him that he still has a chance. They plan to
have a party.

Why do I feel
this way for a
man I've only
just met??

Maria tells the fool that he may be executed by Olivia for

being gone so long and he better think of an excuse. Olivia,
Malvolio and others enter, the fool tries to show Olivia why
she is a fool and why he shouldn't be executed when suddenly
Olivia is informed by her uncle Toby that an unknown
gentleman is outside the palace.

The let Cesario in and Olivia hears of how he rudely approached the
palace, she gives him the cold shoulder until he insists that he has a
secret message for her. Olivia send everyone away and he begins to
speak of Orsinio's love, she tells Cesario to go back to the duke and tell
him that she will never love him. As Cesario leaves Olivia begin to fall in
love with him and calls for Malvolio to return the ring the duke gave her
to Cesario.
