MATHEMATICS
SUPPORT

with James Strickland, MSA, PhD Candidate

Mathematics and numeracy -- two words we hear on a daily

basis but what do they mean in an early years setting? The Natonal
Curriculum Curriculum argues the importance given to
mathematics and numeracy in the Early Years; however, many
Early Year Practitioners (EYPs) either report significant anxieties
or lack the essential understandings as to how children best learn
math in their 21st century world.
The purposes of this session are to assist those in recognizing
how children learn mathematics as well as inform EYPs as to the
nature and role that the national curriculum plays in a childs life.
