In the last eight years, the average percentage of funds for direct assistance to members
was much lower. It was only 9 percent.
Since 2004, the organization has collected about $ 45 million. Out of this , the
organization spent less than 4 million for member benefits.
American Association of State Troopers was disciplined five times by regulators in three
states for false statements or misrepresentation by the solicitors. Since 1994 the
organization has spent more than $ 300,000 for the settlement of all these claims.
The longtime director of the association, Ken Howes, retired last year. His successor is
M. Breeding. He said in an interview : "We all want to collect more money from
fundraising, but there's no way we'd even be able to do this amount of calls. Postage and
printing alone would take you under. "
