State Involvement
Jerry Brown, California Governor, signed into law a bill that allows doctors to
assist in suicide for the terminally ill.
More people are starting to support right to die than prior years. Saying that it is
morally acceptable.
California only recently passed death with dignity act in October 2015
assist terminally ill patients in committing suicide v. give terminally ill patients the means to end
their lives.

Hospitals
now required to have an ethics committee to which decisions can be referred when there is
uncertainty or controversy about them, and the courts stand ready to take these decisions as
well if there is irresolvable disagreement among parties.
Death Penalty
There is a racial divide in opinions on the death penalty in the U.S. 63% of whites, 34% of
blacks, and 45% hispanics support the death penalty.
Support has fallen, but a majority of Americans still back the death penalty
