Purpose:Inthisfinallessonstudentsareexpectedtobeabletocriticallyanalyzeandreflectonshortstudentmadefilms.Theyareexpectedto
backuptheirclaimswithsupportfromthefilmandtobeabletorecallspecificdetails.Thislessonwillprovidestudentstheopportunityto
thinklikeafilmcritic.Inadditiontothis,studentsareexpectedtopersuasivelywriteafilmreviewusinganumberofmethods.Thisis
importantsothatstudentswillhavepracticewritingusingpersuasion.

Introduction:(10min)
Thelessonwillbeginwithaquickreadassignment(SSR).Studentswillreadablogpost,whichwillcountasthesupplementalreading
fortodaysclass.ThisblogpostistitledConfessionsofaFilmCritic.Studentswillbeabletogainfirsthandknowledgeofwhatitis
liketobeafilmcriticandunderstandwhatitisexactlythatfilmcriticsarelookingforwhentheyareassessingfilm.Studentswillbe
abletoexploretheblogandgetanideaofwhatexactlytheyarelookingforastheyarecritiquingtheirclassmatesfilm.

Eachgroupwillhavetheopportunitytocomeupandpresentwhotheyareandwhattheconceptoftheirfilmis.Inadditionto
discussingtheirshortfilm,theywillshowthefilmtotheclassandansweranyquestionsthatmayarise.
StudentswillhavetheopportunitytoscoretheirclassmatesfilmbasedonacritiquesheetthatIwillprovide.Theyarelooking
foranumberofthingsincludingappeal,quality,andeffectiveness.Aftereachgrouphascompletedtheirfilmviewing,students
willhavetheopportunitytodiscussasaclasshowtheirfilmsaresimilaranddifferent.Theywillalsoneedtodiscusshowtheir
filmsdepictthethemeofchoicesasitrelatestoSteveHarmonslifeinMonster.
2. FilmReview!(25min)
Afterstudentshavewatchedandcritiquedeachofthefilms,studentswillhave25minutestowriteanessayinwhichtheywill
taketheprocessofcreatingtheirfilmandbringingittothebigscreensandcomposeafilmreviewwhichshouldconvince
otherstocomeandviewtheirfilm.Intheirreviewtheyaretoindetailexplainwhattheirfilmisabout,buttheyshouldnotgive
anybigspoilerstothefilm.Theyaretryingtoconvincepeoplethattheirfilmistherightfilmtocomeandsee!
