Ice and water exploration

Malak, today we had a sensory activity at the centre, involving playing with ice, water and
several theme props. From reading your profile, I noticed you have a strong interest in
exploration; therefore it was no surprise to see you playing at the trough.
As you were playing today, you were exploring language concepts with a math and science
perspective. You were filling different types of containers in the trough with water. You were
also adding the props we had to see if they could fit into the containers. When I came by, we
explored water by asking if they were empty or full as I filled and tipped water out of
containers. You were predicting what might happen through testing, therefore developing
your own working theories. At one point of your exploration, you picked up a piece of ice
and said Teacher, look, this ice is small and picked up another piece of ice and said and
this is big, MashaAllah, well done to you Malak!
Malak, while you were playing with ice and water, you were learning so much. You were
learning problem solving skills, understanding how and why things happen. You were
also learning maths concepts such as volume, sizes and all this water helps you develop
your hand/eye coordination through pouring.
Malak, we will continue to support your exploration, perhaps of measurement by using
math resources at the centre.
