Feeding/Oral Motor

Core Curriculum Standard: 2.1 All students will acquire health


promotion concepts and skills to support a healthy, active lifestyle.
Goal: A. will improve his oral motor skills to facilitate production of
sound and feeding skills.
Objective:
1) A. will scoop/pierce presented foods from therapeutic
utensils/bowl with increased independence, given verbal, visual,
and tactile prompts with 80% accuracy.
2) A. will independently strip edibles from the presented
spoon/fork while providing bilateral lip seal during mealtime,
given verbal, visual, and tactile prompts with 80% accuracy.
3) A. will maintain a bilateral grasp when drinking from a cup
providing minimal spillage and increased independence, given
verbal, visual, and tactile prompts with 80% accuracy.

Materials: chicken, spinach, rice, and fruit juice in green nosey
cup
2.) Independently strip edibles from presented spoon/fork while
providing bilateral lip seal during mealtime
o Significantly improved bilateral lip seal and stripping off
edibles from spoon. Required hand-over-hand assistance to
scoop food and bring to mouth due to edibles falling from
spoon. Intensive rotary/munching chewing pattern with
significantly increased tongue thrusting.
3.) Maintain a bilateral grasp when drinking from a cup providing
minimal spillage and increased independence
o Required hand-over-hand assistance to facilitate bilateral
grasp when drinking from cup.
Poor eye contact with food in bowl and required direction to look
at food.
Presented with periods of listless, sleepy, and lethargic behavior.
