TEKS for transformations in Grade 1

TEKS 111.3

6-Geometry and Measurement

(B) Distinguish between attributes that define a two-dimensional or a threedimensional figure and attributes that do not define the shape.

Transformation

Transformation: A transformation is four specific ways to manipulate the

shape of a point, line, or shape.

For example if we want to rotate a shape, you simply figure out the points of
the shape and rotate it the way you want it.

Examples of Transformation

Examples of transformations include: Dilation, rotation, translation, and

reflection.

Define Translation

Translation: A translation is a motion (or transformation) of a plane that

moves every point of the plane a specified distance in a specified direction
along a straight line.

Example of Translation

An example of translation can be a person that is in point A and slides to point

Define Reflection

Reflection: a reflection is a line of transformation from the plane to the next

plane that pairs with each of its points.

Example of Reflection

An example of reflection can be our image reflecting off of a mirror when we

look at the mirror.

Define Rotation
Rotation: a rotation is a transformation of the plane determined by holding
one point (the center) fixed and rotating the plane about this point by a
certain direction or distance.

Example of a rotation

A simple example of rotation can be a car giving a turn clockwise or a person

turning their body.
