OnelateatnightinOctoberof1967,30,000protestersmarchedtothepentagonfromtheLincoln
memorial.FiredupbythedemonstrationattheLincolnmemorialwith100,000protesters,thissmall
groupmarchedonthepentagontogettheirfeelingsacross.Antiwarfeelingswerestrongatthistime
especiallyamongstleftiststudents.Itwasntalljusthippiedrugsandpeace(VietnamWarProtests).
TheseprotestershadstrongdislikeofthewarinVietnam,butnotallwarsreceivedthissortofreaction.
Withlettersandnewspaperssubjecttocensorship,manypeopleonthehomefrontneverknew
thetruecostofthewaronthesoldiersandsupportedthewartotakedowntheenemy.Evenwhensoldiers
camehomefromthewarsincethenewspaperswerecensoredtheirstorieswouldntmakeitfartherthan
theirfamilyandfriends(Badsey,Stephen)IgnorancefueledtheirsupportofthewarunlikeVietnam
protesters.TheprotestershatedthelackofinformationaboutthewarbeingopentoUnitedStatescivilians
duringthewar,andwhentheinformationcameoutabouthowthewarstartedtheywereevenmore
enraged.Protestersdisgustevenledthemtoshunthewoundedsoldierswhocamehomefromthewar
leavingmillionsofveteranswithwoundsandPTSDwithouthelp(Sitikoff,Harvard).Howeverthese
werenottheonlyciviliansaffectedbythewar.MillionsofcitizensofFranceandVietnamwereaffected
farmorethancitizensonthehomefront.
TheGermanoccupationofFranceleftmanyFrenchcitizensinfear.TheGermansgovernedevery
aspectoftheirdailylivestodemonstratetheirpowerovertheterrifiedFrench.TheGermansgoverned
whattheyate,wheretheywent,(Wichers,Shannon).InVietnam,hundredsofunarmedcivilianswere
gunneddown.MillionswereexposedtoAgentOrange.Theyweredehumanizedmakingiteasierforthe
soldierstoharmthem(Turse,Nick).Ignorancegovernedthehomefrontwhetheritledpeopletosupport
thewarornot.TheciviliansinFranceandVietnamwerejustasaffectedasthesoldiersofthewar.They
weredehumanized,killedandwounded.
