Rotational Molding

Troubleshooting
Problem : Poor impact resistance
/ Low toughness

Probable Cause

Possible Solutions

- (Under cooked) Extend the heating time and/or increase the

oven temperature. The undercooked part will show surface
pinholes and bubbles at cross-sectional area.
Improper cooking condition
- (Over cooked) Reduce the oven temperature and/or the
heating time. For overcured parts which show brown with strong
acrid smell, the impact strenght can fall dramatically. Suggest to

Improper resin selection

To much pigment or poor mixed pigment

Poor part design

- Use lower melt index material (e.g. MI 3) or lower density

polyethylene (e.g. 0.932 g/cm3)

- Use color compounds

- Reduce amount of pigment (amount of pigment dry blend
should less than 0.3%)
- Use high-speeed mixer (800-1000 rpm)
- Mix the powder & pigment until the powder temperature reach
at least 55oC

- Avoid any sharp corners or edges.
