Role of beliefs
1. Human emotions are more refined than a dogs emotions because humans
lead difficult, more complicated lives. A dog lives for the simple things in
life; catching a ball, food and shelter. However, humans have money,
relationships and work to worry about and all 3 things bring about
needless or excessive emotions.
2. The Scream - The man is screaming, most likely due to the distortion of his
environment and his self. He must be suffering from some kind of
emotional disorder, due to his frustration and terror at his distorted
surroundings.
3. If the human was replaced by a dog, it would have a much calmer
expression. The dog would look quite confused at the changing
environments, but would not be overly worried about his situation. This is
because a dog has much simpler emotions than a human and tends not to
let emotions get in the way of what is happening before it, unless
something life-threatening or exciting is happening before its eyes.
Emotions
- The word emotion is derived from the Latin verb movere meaning to
move.
- As well as the 6 primary emotions of happiness, sadness, fear, anger,
surprise and disgust, there are also social emotions.
- Ambition, contempt, shame, pride, envy, gratitude, jealousy, guilt,
indignation, sympathy and embarrassment.

James-Lange Theory
Suggests a close relation between our emotions and our bodies. Emotions
are physical in nature and bodily changes come before and cause
emotional changes.
