Message from the President

Hello everyone,

Wow! The time has flown by and just maybe the winter is nearly
over.

At the last board meeting, we set all the dates for the coming
year. Suddenly Im looking at Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur,
already! In between, though, there is much to celebrate and
observe.

Purim will soon be upon us. Come join the fun, and please
remember to bring food for the Food Bank and donations for the
Syrian refugees. (See Purim article, page 3, for guidelines on what
to bring.) Incidentally, a Syrian family was on a plane with me
recently. They originally went to PEI, where the Jewish Community
there was as supportive as we are, here in Saskatoon. The Jewish
heart knows no geographical boundaries in its generosity.

Linda has done a lot in terms of preparing for Yom Hashoah

and I would urge everyone who can to attend the service and
film. Each time I read or hear about the insurmountable odds
those survivors overcame, or the horrors all victims endured, I am
humbled. If they can do what they did, I can go across the river to
honour their memories.
Our combined commemoration and celebration of Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haatzmaut will be held on May 11 at the shul.

I continue to urge everyone to attend services, not only so we

all can say Kaddish but also so we can be together. Our community is dwindling, but we can come together for an hour and a
half on Saturday morning and enjoy our uniqueness with joy.

Purim

Once again, we are preparing for a Purim celebration, to be held

on Thursday, March 23, at 6:30 pm. There is still lots of time to
consider your costume. Join us for the reading of the Megillah
(Story of Esther). This year we are adjusting the reading to
appeal to both children and adults. The same cast of characters
will appear and so there will be lots of opportunities for shaking
the graggers. Best of all Sisterhood will provide hamantaschen
and other delights.
As usual we will collect items for the Food Bank, such as
shakeable items (e.g., pasta in boxes to double as a gragger!) or
other non-perishable foods.

We will also collect items for the Syrian refugees. Please bring
winter clothing (jackets, parkas, and sweaters in differing sizes),
and kitchen items (cooking pots, dishes, cups, glasses, and cutlery).
Toys are also well received. Please do not bring bed linen, underwear, pants, shoes, or small appliances (coffee makers, toasters, or
electric pans).
