7. Why safety is important in oil and gas industries?


Safety and health management is one of the vital constituents of Oil and Gas industry
activities because most of the operational conditions, chemicals and end products
(hydrocarbons and other compounds) associated with Oil and Gas production are wellknown to pose serious safety and health threats to the workers.
8. Explain alarp in terms of risk acceptance?
ALARP is one of the fundamental principles of risk management. We neither need nor
want to manage risk to the point where we eliminate it, because doing so is simply not a
good use of resources. The point where the costs exceed benefits. The ALARP concept
is illustrated below and is the point where risk is negligible, or at least at a level where it
can be managed by routine procedures.
9. How to differentiate incident and accident?
Incident: An undesired event which under slightly different circumstances ,could have
resulted in harm to people ,damage to property or loss of process
Accident: An undesired event that results in harm to people damage to property or loss
of property.

A hazard is something that can cause harm, e.g. electricity, chemicals, working
up a ladder, noise, a keyboard, a bullyat work, stress, etc.

A risk is the chance, high or low, that anyhazard will actuallycause


somebodyharm.
