Intervention:
When JR sees someone with a nametag, remind him to walk over to
the person and say nametag please before allowing him to read the
nametag. The person who has the nametag will flip it to where he
cannot see the name until he appropriately asks nametag please. If
JR runs toward the nametag, he will have to go back to where he
started and walk.
Summary:
JRs baseline data shows that he never appropriately asked for a
nametag. In one week, he ran towards and touched nametags ten
times. Once the intervention was put into place, JR began to learn how
to ask for the nametag and receive the reinforcement of reading the
nametag that he wanted. This was a hard behavior to stop because
reading the nametag automatically reinforced JR, therefore if it was not
covered immediately then the intervention could not be used. Once JR
was taught to walk towards the person and say nametag please he
began to ask appropriately at a slow rate. By week six, JR was using
appropriate behaviors for asking for nametags more than
inappropriate. This is something that will continue to grow if JR is
reminded and reinforced when he asks appropriately.
