Revolution was and to display artifacts from Africa and Asia, because most of the natives in El Paso did not know much about the outside world and the El Paso Fine Arts organization wanted to change that.
The museum was built in the Turney Mansion which was
built in 1919, William Ward Turney lived in this house with his wife, Iva Turney. She was the woman who deeded her home to the city of El Paso in 1940. This house is important because it was designed by Henry Trost which was one of the main founders of the Trost and Trost architecture company.

was owned by the fairly rich Mr. and Mrs. Turney. They both helped plan recreational events such as the Sun Carnival also known as the Sun Bowl Art Exhibit. This already made them very well known in the city, so planning out the museum had all of El Pasos support.
