Lab Values & meaning that you need to know in N150B

CBC including differential counts, MCV, MCH, & MCHC


Chem 7 (BMP or Basic Metabolic Panel) : Na, K, Cl, CO2, Ca, Glucose, Anion gap,
Bun, Cr,
Chem 20 (CMP or Comprehensive Metabolic Panel): Chem 7 + total protein,
Albumin, ALT, AST, ALP, Bilirubin (direct, indirect)
Other chemistry test items you need to know: Mg, Phosphorus, Ionized Ca,
Prealbumin, HgbA1c
Coagulation tests: PT, PTT, INR, D-dimer
Therapeutic level of Drug: trough and peak level for Vancomycin & Gentamycin,
Therapeutic level for Digoxin, Dilantin You do not need to memorize each
therapeutic level of each drug, but need to know if the result is therapeutic, under
therapeutic, or toxic level when you see results.
Thyroid tests: TSH,T3, & T4 LEVEL Just need to know the meaning od each test
and cases of high or low for each item.
Urinalysis findings need to know normal findings and abnormal findings including
the meaning of abnormal results.
Microbiology tests C Diff toxin & other culture tests (blood culture, sputum or
respiratory culture, urine culture, wound culture)
Drug sensitivity tests: Need to know which antibiotics is sensitive to the bacteria
found in the culture result.
