Balls all Over

Observation:

Standard(s):

Physically educated students will demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement
patterns and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Big Idea(s)/Essential Question(s):

Can students use team work and strategies to successfully play the game using small
dodgeballs and a timer to get as many balls on the other teams side as they can?

Academic LanguageThrowing, team work, strategy

SkillsLearning different and affective ways of throwing a ball, and how to strategies
to work together and win the game.
Lesson Objective(s):
The game is set up just like dodgeball but the objective is to get all of the balls onto
the other teams side before the time runs out. The team with the least amount of balls
on their side when time runs out wins. Over all objectives is to keep everyone
collectively engaged and working with teamwork, through strategies and fitness to
accomplish a task.
Assessment/Evaluation: Formative: Students will be evaluated on throwing. ***see form
attached***
Summative: The evidence I will collect is by watching and evaluating how the students throw
already and after teaching them the correct ways evaluate the students based off what they
learned through the game.
Formal/Informal: I will use an evaluation form to evaluate the students.

The only part of the form being used for this game to evaluate the students will be the
underhand and overhand throwing part. The top part (catching) is for another game
following this same activity just modified.
Instructional Strategies/Activities:
The instructional strategies for this game is throwing the balls the
fastest and the furthest away from the opponent so they have to
run further and take more time to get the ball.

Ask students to pick a partner

and stand in front of their
partner. (This is a good
strategy
to
use
because
usually the athletic kids will
pick another athletic kid etc.
and it will be an easy way to
separate teams without you
picking who on each team, the
students basically does it
themselves and it evens it
out). Once they pick a partner
then split the teams up and
have them go to the end line
on opposite sides of the gym.
At this point the balls should
already be set up in the middle
of the court lined up just like
you line up for dodgeball. Set a
timer that is loud enough for all
the kids to hear it when it goes
off (set it for 1 minute). While
the kids are waiting to play,
this is the time to set the rules
and tell them everything that
involves safety while playing
this game. Once the students
acknowledge the rules and the
directions to the game you can
finally yell ready set go and
let the game begin. Prepare
yourself to know that there will
be balls flying everywhere. It is
a very awesome and fun game
to watch the kids play. Once
the timer goes off there should
be no more balls being thrown,
if one is thrown after the
buzzer went off, that ball
automatically goes back on the
side it came from. Have the
kids bring their balls to a
designated place to count
them all and see what team
has less balls, whichever one
does, wins.

CLOSURE

Summarizing, Reminding, Reflecting, Restating, Connecting

In the end of the game student have learned the concept of teamwork, strategy, and
movement patterns to accomplish this game. The students will receive feedback during and
after the game is played. While the game is being played the teacher can stop a student
and show them the correct way the throw a ball, or even guide them with ideas to
strategies ways to win the game. Feedback will also come after the game when the
teachers ask the students what they feel they have learned and what they got out of the
activity. While that conversation is going on that will be the student reflection of the activity
taking place.

TEACHER REFLECTION/FUTURE MODIFICATIONS

When we all met after we played the game and we asked the students what they learn
thought the objective to the game was and they all said it dealt with teamwork, strategy,
to beat the other team. The game is a kids favorite and very fun game to play. It is simple
any other way anyone would like modify it to work with any kind of evaluation. I learne
very well and that I can and will use it again to evaluate students with throwing and team
