Ethics and Environment

Group 1
Concept Of Environment

All that which is external to man is the

environment broadly speaking. The concept
of environment is complex. The external
environment or the Macro-environment is
said to be responsible for millions of
preventable diseases originating in it.
Micro-environment is the Domestic
environment in which man lives.
Components Of Environment
• PHYSICAL: air, water, soil, housing, climate,
geography, heat, light, noise, debris, radiation, etc.

• BIOLOGICAL: man, viruses, microbial agents,

insects, rodents, animals and plants, etc.

• PSYCHOSOCIAL: cultural values, customs,

beliefs, habits, attitudes, morals, religion,
education, lifestyles, community life, health
services, social and political organization
Ecological ethics
• “The view that nonhuman parts of the
environment deserves to be preserved for
their own sake, regardless of wheather this
benefits human being”

• Eg: business firm use the natural resources

and affect it with disposal of waste
Social ecology
• The environment crises we face are rooted in
the social system of hirerarchy and
domination that characterize our society
ENVIRONMENT ECOLOGY
• CONCERN WITH PRESERVING THE INTEGRITY
OF THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT IN THE FACE
OF THE IMPACT OF MODERN INDUSTRY AND
TECHNOLOGY.
IMPACT OF INDUSTRY ON ECOLOGY

• GLOBAL WARMING
• DEFORESTATION
• WATER POLLUTION
NATURAL RESOURCES
LAND
WATER
WIND
COAL
CRUDE OIL
Research on pollution
• More than 150 millions tons of pollution are pumped
into air .
• 41 millions of toxic waste are produced
• 15 millions gallons of pollution are dumped in to
national water ways
• Nation made signification process in controlling certain
types of pollution
• But environment problem remain international level
• In the year 2000 report, the Worldwatch Institute, highly
respected research group, concluded
Some of the factors affected
• Melting ice caps and glaciers
– Ice cover shrinking in Artic,Antartic etc
• Forest overwhelmed by human demands
– today forest area shrink from 0.56 hectares to 0.38
hectares
• Ozone depletion
ETHICS AND ENVIRONMENT
