Song

Song title
Homecoming

Artist
Kanye West

Genre
Hip Hop/Rap

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

There are many low angled and close up shots in hip hop music videos. This implies
their power over the audience. They usually have an irrelevantly placed woman next to
the audience to show that they are desired by the opposite gender.
A lot of the time there is a crowd dancing or moving to the beat. This shows that the
crowd like the song. This gives them more credibility because it shows that crowd like
the song so its more likely that the audience will like the song.
They usually wear sport clothes to signify strength and lots of money and chains are
in it to imply wealth

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

My music video is going to have a little narrative to it

It is going to be about someone who left their hometown to pursue their dream
coming back and paying a visit. He arranges to meet up with the

Costume
The costumes are going to be everyday clothes because it is set in todays time. So
they are just going to wear casual clothes like genes, t-shirts and jumpers.

Lighting
The majority of the lights used will be natural light & the setting will be a sunny day so
there will be bright light.
However, for the dancing section of the music video I will be using artificial light in my
dance academy. I will use white light during this part of the video

Locations
I am using 3 different locations. The first location is Henley because this is going to
be the town the character grew up in and he is coming back to visit. The second
location is the creative media studio. I used this because I will use it to show how the
song is being created which

Shot types
I am going to use establishing shots quite a lot because I am showing the area the
music video is being shot in. This means a lot of scenery will be shown.
There will be a POV shot when the character is looking over his home town. This is
effective because it puts you in the position of that character.
I will also use over the shoulder shot because its about a couple and theyre going to
be talking to each other in this video

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
I watched the official music video to the song to see what it was like and if I could
use any ideas that they used in their music video in mine.

I watched various other hip hop music videos made around the same time the song
was made
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwCykGDEp7M
One of the music videos I watched was Hurt by Christina Aguilera. I watched this
because the music video told a story. I watched how they portrayed that story and to
see if I could use any of their techniques in my music video.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

They didnt influence my decisions that much because they mainly didnt
portray a similar story I was portraying however I tried to use techniques from
those videos.

Lyrics

[Intro - Kanye West]
Yeah.
And you say Chi city
Chi city, Chi city
[Chorus - Chris Martin]
I'm coming home again.
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I'm coming home again
I'm in home again.
[Verse 1 - Kanye West]
I met this girl when I was three years old
And what I loved most she had so much soul
She said, excuse me little homie, I know you don't know me- but,
My name is Windy and, I like to blow trees and,
From that point I never blow her off,
They can come from outta town I like to show her off,
They like to act tough, she like to tow em off,
And make em straighten up their act, cause she know they soft
And when I grew up she showed me how to go downtown
And at nighttime my face lit up so astounding
And I told her in my heart is where she always be
She never mess with entertainers cause they always leave
She said it felt like they walked and drove on me
Knew I was gang affiliated got on TV and told on me
I guess it's why last winter she got so cold on me
She said, Ye keep making that, keep making that platinum and gold for me
[Chorus - Chris Martin]
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I'm coming home again
I'm in home again
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Oh, now I'm coming home again
Maybe we can start again
[Verse 2 - Kanye West]
But if you really care for her, then you would n-never hit the airport,
To follow your dream, sometimes I still talk to her, but when I talk to her
It always seems like she talking about me,
She said you left your kids and they just like you

They wanna rap and make show beats just like you,
But they just not you and I just got through
Talking bout what she can try to do just not new
Now everybody got the game figured out all wrong
I guess you never know what you got till its gone
I guess this is why I'm here and I cant come back home
And guess when I heard that when I was back home
Every interview I'm representing you making you proud
Reach for the stars so if you fall you land on a cloud
Jump in the crowd, spark you lighters, wave em around,
And if you don't know by now, I'm talking about Chi Town,
[Chorus - Chris Martin]
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I'm coming home again
Maybe, do you remember when fireworks at lake Michigan
Oh, now I'm coming home again
I'm in home again
Maybe, do you remember when fireworks at lake Michigan
Oh, now I'm coming home again
Maybe we can start again
Loyee oyeee oh, loyee oyeee oh
Coming home again
Loyee oyeee oh, loyee oyeee oh
Coming home again
Maybe we can start again

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The meaning I am portraying in my music video is about a man ringing up a girl for a
date. He then meets his friend to tell him about the news and he is happy for him.
They meet up and everything goes well. This develops into a relationship. They are
together grabbing a drink and he leaves to go to the toilet. During that time she
checks his phone and sees he has been texting another girl. She is shocked by this
and when he comes back she slaps him and walks off. This is the end of their
relationship and he leaves town for a while.
