Los Angeles

Program for the trip


We are flying from Billund 15.10 (Danish time) and we are arriving at Los Angeles International
Airport at 5.30pm(Local time). It will take about 11-12 hours.
All tickets are pre-paid
We are staying at Hollywood Liberty Hotel - 6820 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA, 90028 USA
Every day starts with breakfast at the hotel from 7-9 am.

Day 1: Arrival and check-in at the hotel

Day 2: Hollywood: Universal Studios

10 a.m. 6 p.m.: Universal Studios


6 p.m. 7 p.m.: Universal Citywalk
7 p.m. 8 p.m.: Dinner at the hotel

Our first two days in Los Angeles are focused around Hollywood. We are going to explore some of
the famous sights of the city. Sights we all know very well from TV. We are going to learn about the
huge film industry in Los Angeles and our first visit is Universal Studios
About Universal Studios:
Universal Studios is one of the oldest and most famous Hollywood film studios still in use. It
was initially created to offer tours of the real Universal Studios sets. Its official marketing
headline is The entertainment capital of LA.

Pre-arrival:
It is important to bring photo-ID when buying tickets + plan to present your bags to security
before entering.
The park opens at 10.00 a.m. and closes at 6.00 p.m. We will be ready at the entrance when it opens.
The tickets are booked in advance in Denmark. When entering the park we all start with a studio
tour. During the day we will see several shows filled with action and try different activities - A whole
day about movies and the film-industry which is a big part of the city culture.
When the park closes at 6.00 p.m. it is highly recommended to do a Universal citywalk. Citywalk is
a promenade just outside the studios which shows exactly what this part of the city is about - life
and lights everywhere.
At 7.00 p.m. we return to hotel for dinner.

Day 3: Hollywood: Walk of fame and the Hollywood sign

9:30 a.m. 11 a.m.: Walk of fame


11 a.m. 12 a.m.: Lunch at Sunset (sandwich bar)
12 a.m. 4 p.m.: The Hollywood Sign and hiking in the Hollywood Hills
4 p.m. 6 p.m.: Relax at the hotel
6 p.m. 7 p.m.: Dinner at the hotel

A new day exploring Hollywood has begun. We are still in the area of the film-industry and starts
the day with visiting the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. Starting at 9.30 a.m.
The Walk of Fame comprises more than 2,500 five-pointed stars embedded in the sidewalks along
15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard, and three blocks of Vine Street. The stars are public monuments
to achievements in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians,
directors and others. This monument shows how important this industry is for Los Angeles.

After lunch we head for the Hollywood Hills and the Hollywood Sign.
The Hollywood Sign is a landmark and an American culture icon. It is situated on Mount Lee, in the
Hollywood Hills Area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign overlooks Hollywood. It was originally
created in 1923 as an advertisement for a local real estate development. It was only intended to last
a year and a half, but after the rise of of American Cinema in Los Angeles during the golden age of
Hollywood, the sign became an internationally recognized symbol and was left there.
The sign makes frequent appearances in popular culture like films and TV-programs.

Day 4: Beverly Hills: Rodeo Drive

9:30 a.m. 11 a.m.: Take a walk at Rodeo Drive - Consume the atmosphere
11 a.m. 12 a.m.: Lunch at Planet Hollywood
12 a.m. 1:30 p.m.: Where the stars lives (bus drive) - With stops at sights
2 p.m. 5 p.m.: Visit the Museum of Tolerance. We will join a guided tour at the Tolerance
Center through the exhibits included from 14:15-15:15. The students are allowed to explore
the museum on their own afterwards.

6 p.m. 7 p.m.: Dinner at the hotel

Day 5: Venice Beach

9:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m.: Ethnographic studies regarding the artists along Venice Beach
11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m.: Lunch
12:30 p.m. 2:30 p.m.: Bike-ride along the bicycle tracks near Venice Beach
6 p.m. 7 p.m.: Dinner at the hotel

Day 6: Pasadena City Collega:

11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m.: Lunch in the cafeteria at campus
12:30 p.m. 2:30 p.m.: We will participate in a lecture about culture
4:45 p.m.: We will watch a college baseball game at campus
6 p.m. (approx.): Dinner at the hotel

Day 7: Friendship class

We will arrive at the John H. Liechty Middle School at 8:30 a.m.

We will spend the day with our friendship class in their everyday school life
o Mrs. Collens who is the teacher in the class will have made a program. This includes
lessons in English and PE.
When the school day is over, we will return to our hotel for dinner

Day 8: Friendship class

We will arrive at the John H. Liechty Middle School at 8:30 a.m.


o The students will be in groups of four. It will be two Danish students and two
American students. It will be those two pairs who already has communicated in emails.
o First activity will be for the students to discuss which images the students have
uploaded on Instagram. What do the images describe - is it from school, spare time
or something else.
o Second activity will be the students tell each other about the Danish and the
American school systems, and how does a typical week look like both school and
spare time. Do they look a like - or does the students live in completely different
cultures?

Third activity will be for the students to select and then present 3-5 symbols, 3-5
heroes, 3-5 rituals, 3-5 values that each represent Denmark and USA.
Why is it those who were chosen?
Do the students know each other's chosen items?

Day 9: Disneyland with our friendship class

10 a.m. 6 p.m.: Disneyland

7 p.m. 8 p.m.: Dinner at the hotel

Day 10: Downtown Los Angeles: Arts District + Los Angeles City Hall + Grand Park
Today we will see different contrast of Los Angeles
9:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m.: Arts District
11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m.: Lunch (sandwich in Grand Park)
12:30 p.m. 3 p.m.: City Hall
3 p.m.: Return to the hotel for our luggage
4:30 p.m.: Metro to Los Angeles International Airport
8:10 p.m.: Departure from LA international Airport
15:50: Arrival at Billund Airport (local time, day 11)
Los Angeles Arts District:
the Arts District lies on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles. The area has given new
life to old industrial buildings whose history often dates to the early 20th century. It is a
creative community that has made contributions to the cultural and economic well-being of
Los Angeles for decades. It is an area full of art galleries and museums, but also with people
with a much lower average income than most places in Los Angeles
City Hall:
Los Angeles City Hall is the center of the government of the city of Los Angeles. It was
completed in 1928 and houses the mayors office. City Hall has an observation deck, free to
the public and open from monday through friday during business hours.
We will have a guided tour (for free) of the rotunda, the press room and council chambers.

We are flying from Los Angeles International Airport 8:10 p.m. (Local Time) and we are arriving in
Billund 15.50 (Danish Time). The trip home will take approximately 11 hours.
Tickets for Universal Studios and Disneyland are priced at 95$ per themepark.
