DESCRIPTION
Healthy Start CORPS is a case management and community intervention
program funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCH).
Using case management through referrals to provide services in order to
eliminate disparities in mothers and infants up to twenty-four months of age.

MISSION
The mission of Healthy Start CORPS is to enhance the perinatal service system
in Robeson County while strengthening community empowerment.

HISTORY
Healthy Start began in 1999 as a Health Promotion and Education Program
In 2002, UNCP began funding the program and turned it into case
management
Over the years, UNCP Healthy start has expanded staff as well as
community involvement.

CHALLENGES
Collaboration with other case managing programs in Robeson County
Change is difficult to bring about in Robeson County, as far as breaking
down barriers

WHATS IN THE FUTURE?


UNCP Healthy Start CORPS Staff hope to:
Continue to receive referrals to link pregnant women and mothers to the
services they need.
Serve vast numbers of women, not just high-risk
Have a stronger presence in the community
Ex. Car seat safety training
