junglesuchthatBrotherfearedwewouldfallheadlongintoitsthroat,thatthegreatglutton
wouldswallowhimandhewouldneverreadthewordsagain.Eachpulseofthejunglemirrored
therhythmofherlaughter,onetwo,onetwo.Thefamiliardrumbeatbegantoovertakehim,his
eyespulsingwiththebeckonofthejungleandtheoppositeallureofherlaughteruntilthey
scannedthesamesentenceagain,again,again,

amemory,atauntingphrasehelongedtoremember,neededtotellhissister,butasthepale
windscameoutofthecloudintothegyresofhiseyes,heonlyheardonetwo,onetwo,

junglesdin,andhecouldnotremember.Instead,hebroughtherwildflowersfromtheoutskirts
oftheforest.Buthekepthiseyesdown.Nevernearenoughtoseeinside.
